SELF-PORTRAIT AS A PAINTER
Van Gogh really liked to paint self-portraits — this is one of something like 35 he did throughout his life. He used a newer painting style to bring home the point that he was a modern artist. He looks tired and stressed, which is pretty accurate given that the city had exhausted him by the time he painted this one.
