Whistling Nose - Nostalgia Ward Sucks at Video Games

The Whistling Nose Tribute to NES, SNES, and MS DOS Games

Playing Retro Games (Somtimes Poorly) on the Internet

My actual SNES mini, professionally photographed, featuring a cartoon character and the words 'I suck at video games'

Video games! Everyone plays 'em sometimes. I think they're neat, especially older games. But for every sensational speedrunner and terrific Twitcher (is that what they're called? I dunno...), there's just a regular Joe like me who plays them quite poorly. Besides, who wants to watch a guy play a video game well, when you could get a history lesson and a laugh instead?

That's what this feature is all about. I've been sitting on the idea for about six years now. I figured why not just get things going, now that I've built this website? Plus, it's mostly retro games, so there's a niche for ya. I do enjoy gaming, but I always find myself going back to retro games. It isn't just because I have nostalgia for them, it's because I genuinely enjoy them. I like to joke that I "have a backlog going back 25 years," which is sort of true.

I originally called this I Suck at Video Games and NES Let's Play Fails, which was a parody of video game streaming with MST3K. But after some consideration and feeling like it was a hassle to make the videos, I abandoned the project. Instead, I'm just going to talk about games I love and maybe do some gameplay videos as I get around to it. I'm doing this for fun and hope you'd like to join along. As of 3/2026, I'm very much into different kinds of Solitaire and the Mega Man X series, so we'll start with those. Feel free to reach out if you like these games or want to talk about them some time.

There's nothing here yet. I removed all the old videos because they're not reflective of what I want to do for this project. Most of them also no longer exist because Microslop's latest update bricked my computer before I had a chance to back them up. I switched to Linux Mint Cinnamon instead. It's far superior to any Microslop or Windows product (although I do still have some nostalgia for MS-DOS, Win 3.1, and Windows 95).

Expect some essays and gameplay very soon.
