The Amazing Whistling Nose

About This Project

just the amazing nose The Amazing Whistling Nose is a project that's been marinating in my brain for about 11 years now. One day while hanging out with my wife, I decided to play around on her laptop while she watched Charmed on DVD. As I worked, I created two fun doodles in MsPaint: a weird dude I called Steve from Accounting and a piece known as The Amazing Whistling Nose. I believe I had a cold at the time. Later, I wrote a little experimental tune, attached the image to it, called it a "lo-fi visualizer" as a joke, and published it on YouTube (I eventually just changed it back to the regular name; none of that YouTube optimization crap seems to actually work):

sentient green snotThe idea to expand The Amazing Whistling Nose into a browser minigame hit me as I was working on new MsPaint doodles. To de-stress and relax lately, I've turned to playing guitar, making absurd artwork in MsPaint, and coding web pages. I've been using online guides like W3C and some old college notes/textbooks to get back into web design. I've recently started learning javascript. I used a tutorial to get the basic functions for the cursor and the image right. I got the music notes from this website. The grey Geocities style background came from an archive called Pixel Moondust, also hosted right here on Neocities. I got the retro counter (plus the code and numbers for it) from Dannarchy.
just the amazing noseFor the image itself, you're looking at a brand new image I made in MsPaint specifcally for this page. I made several versions of it, which you'll see in the following videos. I made the cursor the same way. MsPaint is my jam. Oh, and I made two new songs in MuseScore specifically for this project. Watch them below and give them a like, share, or comment "I picked the Amazing Whistling Nose!"

sentient green snotI composed the music with MuseScore and outputted as an Mp3 file. I chopped it up for this. I originally wrote in on guitar, but converted it to sheet music and changed the instruments to a xylphone, oboe, and male vocals. It's not Noteworthy Composer, but it works. It's neatoriffic. Just for the heck of it, I also recorded some actual whistling sounds on my phone. If you like this or any of my other projects, please let me know, share them, and if you're so inclined, buy me a coffee or subscribe to my YouTube channel. Either way, thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
just the amazing noseNow that you've had a chance to play the most sophisticated woodwind on the World Wide Web and checked out the music that inspired it, it's time to rest and take a nap.
